*The* Guide to Spring + Summer Family Photos in Seattle
So! You’re in the market for family photos in the Seattle area and you want to try something different than Fall. Maybe you are not sure what season is best or maybe you’re not sure exactly which location to use or maybe you’re just unsure of the process. Let me break it down:
First, hi! I am Fiona and I have been a family photographer for 15 years. I am a short, silly goose mom of two teen girls who lives on an island near Seattle with my husband and fluffy pup.
Over the span of that time, I have photographed well over a thousand families all over Washington state. Pretty much every family photographer has their own unique style and session preferences. These are mine:
I am a playful, adventurous family photographer who likes to explore beautiful places in golden light with families in nicer than average clothing. I do not liked over posed photos, grumpy dads or boring light.

Start with the Season
Seattle has pretty much four main seasons for photography (even though it feels like we have 3 months of sun and 9 months of rain. Each season has its own beauty + benefits. Let’s go through them!
Winter Family Sessions in Seattle
This spans from December through Mid-March. Outdoors, your options are snow or beach (if you work with me). Indoors, my natural light studio on Bainbridge Island. These sessions feature crispy winter light and snuggly styling (kinda like Fall but minus and crowds and pressure). Here are some examples:
Winter Beach Sessions: January-March in Kitsap and Pierce County.
Snow Minis: Offered December through early March
Studio Work: If you have a milestone you want to capture or just to snuggle up inside, Studio Margo is the perfect place.
Spring Family Sessions in Seattle
Right around the end of March, the flowers begin to bloom in Seattle and that is our indication that we can emerge from our caves and adventure some super pretty places. Spring is overlooked by many families which makes me extremely sad because it is SO pretty around these parts from April-June.

Mid-Way in Spring: Mid-Way sessions are an offering of mine that isn’t going all the way to the mountains but also isn’t the park down the road.

Summer Family Sessions in Seattle
Summer in Seattle: This is the month that we get these pretty purple flowers!
Mountain Shoots Open Up! Perhaps what I am best known for around these parts- mountain locations open late June (Hurricane Ridge) and Late July (Mount Baker).
Mid-Way Summer Sessions: Warm light and pretty spots all over the place!
Fall Family Sessions in Seattle
It is no secret that Fall is the busiest time for any family photographer. But I hope that by scrolling through the Seasons above, you’ll consider branching out if you’ve only ever done Fall.
