In 2017, I got the studio space in downtown that provides beautiful light even for a rainy day Seattle newborn session. Over the hundreds of newborn sessions I have done over the past 8 years, MOST PNW homes do not have great natural light. Many are banked by trees or are older and built before large windows were popular. This has never caused such an issue that we cannot shoot. If it is a really dark day (low, dark clouds) and there is the option to reschedule to a brighter day, we do sometimes. If that is not possible, we just stand right by the biggest window and make it work! 🙂
I know people want to use the studio because the spaces they have created for their baby is sentimental. I mean, new parents spend a pretty penny decorating the nursery so I am always happy to make things work.
On this dark December day, we found the prettiest light pockets. As long as there is enough light to create a shadow, there is enough light to create a pocket.
