I love when I get the chance to meet up with old friends at photoshoots, especially when they are up for traveling for a ruby beach family session! This family is especially special to me because when their oldest son was born, I took some of my first professional shoots with him. And I was there when the next baby boy arrived and finally their beautiful daughter. I knew they would be up for an adventure!
It is always a little risky to photograph a family at a place that you have never been yourself. Over the last few years, I have been seeing glimpses of this wonderful beach and I knew I wanted to photograph a family there! When you arrive at Ruby beach at the end of the day like we did, it is almost like being in a dream or on a movie set, it is just that beautiful. Ruby beach has a wide sandy beach dotted by amazing stand-alone rocks and then Amelia Island a bit out in the distance. Cedar Creek snakes through it all on it’s way to the ocean. There is a lot of driftwood, which is great for climbing!
Shooting the ocean at sunset can be really tricky because there is nothing to filter the bright sun. Those rocks and Amelia Island make Ruby beach gorgeous obstacles for the setting sun to peek around. I cannot wait to get back out to this beach again soon.
You can stay at nearby Kalaoch Lodge if you want to make a mini-vacation of our session. Because of crowds, I like to shoot in places like this on weekdays if possible. You can book a session here online HERE.
